In a landmark decision, the National Sports Commission (NSC) of Timor-Leste has greenlit the establishment of the National Anti-Doping Agency in the country. The decision was reached during a regular meeting held every quarter in the Magna Room at MoYSAC, where Commissioners gathered to deliberate on crucial matters.
Among the key agendas discussed during the meeting on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, were the selection of sports and athletes slated to represent Timor-Leste at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France. Notably, the NSC resolved to establish the National Anti-Doping Agency, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to promoting integrity and fairness in sports.
To lay the groundwork for NADA-TL, the NSC Commissioners directed the legal division of MoYSAC to initiate the preparation of a draft Statute and/or decree-law, setting a robust framework for the agency’s establishment. In a bid to gather expertise and support, a study visit to SEARADO in Singapore and ADAMAS in Malaysia will take place in March.

The decision to establish the National Anti-Doping Agency signifies a significant stride in Timor-Leste’s commitment to combat doping in sports and uphold the spirit of fair play. This proactive move underscores the nation’s resolve to maintain clean and ethical sporting practices, thereby fostering a culture of integrity and transparency in the realm of sport.
